The Alliance of Global Volunteer Organizations (AGVO) actively participated in the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, reinforcing its commitment to climate action, community resilience, and human development. Represented by Justine Akpene Egbenya, AGVO showcased its strategic initiatives aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in sustainable agriculture, water conservation, food security, health, and youth empowerment.
Day 1: Empowering Youth and Promoting Health & Education
On November 18 – 19, AGVO engaged in thematic discussions centered on empowering youth and enhancing health and education systems through climate-resilient approaches. In her remarks, Justine Akpene Egbenya emphasized the critical link between environmental awareness and youth development. “Young people are not just beneficiaries of climate action they are leaders in shaping a sustainable future. AGVO is committed to equipping them with tools and platforms to make that future possible,” she stated.
AGVO presented models of inclusive educational programs and community health initiatives that support climate resilience while increasing access to skills training and public awareness in underserved areas.
Day 2: Sustainable Agriculture, Water Conservation, and Food Security
On November 20 – 21, AGVO spotlighted its collaborative work with local NGOs in Azerbaijan and Africa, focusing on sustainable agriculture and integrated water resource management. The delegation showcased how these efforts improve food security while addressing environmental degradation caused by climate change.
Ms. Egbenya shared success stories from community-led agricultural projects, emphasizing water efficiency techniques and climate-smart farming. “By strengthening local systems and promoting sustainable practices, we can turn climate challenges into development opportunities,” she added.

AGVO’s presence at COP29 underscored its role as a catalyst for community-driven climate solutions rooted in local leadership, volunteerism, and cross-sector collaboration.
