On Friday, May 16, 2025, the Boy Child Support Foundation, a proud member of the Alliance of Global Volunteer Organizations (AGVO), joined the global celebration of the International Day of the Boy Child under the theme: “Boys and Their Mental Well-being: Their Needs to Feel Happy, Healthy, and Valued Within Family and Community.”
We were honored to have Honourable Elikplim Akurugu, Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, as our Special Guest. Her inspirational message highlighted the importance of inclusive policies, mental health education, and community-based support to ensure boys grow up feeling seen, supported, and strong.
AGVO’s Role:
As an umbrella body uniting volunteer-driven organizations across Ghana and beyond, AGVO provided strategic support, coordination, and capacity building to ensure this celebration was impactful. Through our collective voice, we advocate for inclusive development, gender equity, and the mental well-being of all children, including boys, whose emotional struggles are too often overlooked.
The event brought together parents, educators, youth leaders, and community advocates to discuss:
Recognizing emotional distress in boys
Encouraging emotional openness and healthy coping skills
Supporting single-parent households through mentoring and community care
Promoting mental health awareness as a foundation for sustainable development
This celebration is a reminder that when we invest in boys’ mental well-being, we invest in healthier families and stronger communities. AGVO remains committed to empowering member organizations like Boy Child Support Foundation to lead impactful programs that create lasting change.
Thank you to everyone who made this event a success. Let’s keep advocating for our boys—because they matter.
